WISH UPON A STAR

I'm 56 years old and sometimes I still wish on a star like I did when I was a child. And the way the world is right now I've been wishing on stars again.

I used the new Star Stencil from Catherine Pooler's Forever 13 Collection and some WOW embossing powder to make the background. I laid the stencil onto some water color card stock and pressed my embossing ink pad into the paper being sure to get into all the stars. I heat set it with some WOW white embossing powder and then did some ink smooshing. You all know I love this technique and do it often. I used Daydream, Skylight and Stone Blue inks, drying in between each application.
I ran it through my die cutting machine with the large stitched rectangle from the Postage Stamp Die set.

The sentiment is from the Starlights Stamp Set. The three smaller words are heat embossed with WOW white powder onto black card stock. The Star is stamped with Midnight ink onto white card stock and cut out with the coordinating die.
I added everything to a white card base with craft foam.

My wish is for everyone to stay safe!

Happy Stampin'
and thanks so much for visiting!!

The message below is from Catherine and explains how they are moving forward during the COVID-19 crisis.
Hello my friends! I wanted to give you an update on what is happening in our corner of the planet in regards to COVID-19. Our county government issued a stay at home order effective Friday evening through April 17. Since we are not a customer facing retailer, the ordinance allows us to continue shipping while maintaining social distancing practices as outlined below.
Social distancing practices shall include, to the extent possible:
  • Maintaining at least six-foot social distancing from other individuals;
  • Washing hands with soap and water (especially if hands are soiled) for at least twenty seconds as frequently as possible or using hand sanitizer;
  • Covering coughs or sneezes (into the sleeve, elbow or tissue, not hands);
  • Regularly cleaning high-touch surfaces; and
  • Not shaking hands.
The entire CPD team will be working from home, with the exception of the minimum staff needed to ship daily orders. We usually get packages out in 24 – 48 hours, but during this time it may take a bit longer. We are continuing to watch our local government's recommendation in case of changes and will keep you updated.
Thank you for your continued support of Catherine Pooler Designs! We send hugs and love to all of you! Catherine

Cover Plate Fun with StampNation & a GIVEAWAY!

Catherine and Erika hosted a fun Coffee and Cards Live Event along with some of the Brand Ambassadors over on StampNation.  If you're not a StampNation member but want to learn more about it click HERE. The theme was cover plates and they all shared some super fun techniques. The live happened earlier today but you can watch the replay.

I used the Stained Glass Cover Plate for my card today. I paired it with 2 new embossing powders -Grape Crush and All That Jazz which are part of the Forever 13 Embossing trio by WOW (the other powder in the trio is Be Mine), and the Smile Die.

I ran the die through my die cutting machine with white card stock. I separated the frame from all the little bits and inked up the frame with versamark and then heat set it with black embossing powder. I purposely did not get solid coverage as I was wanting it to look old. When it cooled I sponged on some Over Coffee Ink to help give it an aged look.

I started embossing all the little pieces individually but quickly realized that wasn't such a good idea for two reasons. The first was I wasn't getting the best coverage - the two pink looking areas in the middle are actually grape crush but the pieces were too small and holding them to emboss was too hard. The second reason was it was taking FOREVER and I had other things I wanted to do today.

So I grabbed two pieces of white card stock, inked them up with versamark ink and poured Grape Crush EP on one and All That Jazz on the other. I heat set them and ran them through my die-cutting machine with the cover plate. SO MUCH EASIER!

I simply inserted the pieces into the frame and then added the sentiment with craft foam that I had cut from white and black card stock. I forgot to mention - the first thing I did was covered the front of the card with a sheet of Stick-it. This meant I didn't have to glue each piece on individually - so much easier.

YOU CAN WIN A COVER PLATE JUST FOR BEING ONE OF MY LOYAL BLOG READERS! JUST COMMENT BELOW WITH YOUR FAVORITE COVER PLATE FROM CATHERINE POOLER'S SHOP HERE. I WILL RANDOMLY PICK A WINNER FROM THE COMMENTS ON THIS POST ON SUNDAY THE 29TH. WINNER WILL BE CONTACTED VIA EMAIL!

I LOVE HOW YOU ROLL

Things are kind of crazy right now and the best we can do is 'roll with it'. My card today is another easy one that uses a technique that I think is super fun.

Ink smooshing. I love that it's easy to do and you never get the same results twice. I started by stamping the At The Rink Background stamp with versamark ink onto some watercolor card stock then heat setting it with white embossing powder. Next I smooshed some ink onto a large block - doing one color at a time - giving it a spritz of 5 of water and then smooshing the paper into the pool of ink being sure to smoosh it into a few spots and drying between each color. It's really that easy and fun to see how it turns out.

To make the roller skates stand out more I used a water brush and the same inks and colored them in so that they are darker than the background. To finish the panel I blended some Daydream ink around the edges.

Next I stamped the sentiment from Let The Good Times Roll Stamp set onto some white card stock, cut it into a banner and layered it onto a couple strips of patterned paper from the Black Tie Gala Paper pack.

I added this to the card base with some craft foam and it's done.

How are you keeping busy during the social isolation?
Stamping, reading, coloring, gardening...? Leave me a comment, I'd love to know.

Stay safe everyone!

SENDING A SMILE YOUR WAY

Yesterday I decided to pull out all my distress oxide inks and just play with them. I made a card that I shared over on the Scrap'n Stamp Canada Blog but when I was done I didn't want to stop playing. So I grabbed a stencil and some blending brushes and just started adding color to a card stock panel.

I was scrolling through instagram and stamping blogs and came across a fun challenge - #staycraftywithhero. Hero Arts is challenging us to stay crafty, stay connected and to bring positivity and kindness into the world. What an awesome challenge! And with the way things are in the world right now I thought this was a great idea.

Because this card makes me smile deciding on the sentiment was easy. I used a Smile Die from Catherine Pooler Designs and paired it with the Sending A Smile Stamp Set from MFT.

I'm pretty sure I won't be going to the post office to buy stamps any time soon but I know I can send this out through email and text to people in hopes that it brightens their day a bit.
I hope it has brightened your day and that you are encouraged to make a card and share it with someone. If you do, please share it on social media with #staycraftywithhero and also over on the Hero Arts Blog.

Stay safe everyone!

SHAKIN' THINGS UP!

We're shaking things up at the Powell house! Things have been really crazy this week but fingers crossed I'll be sharing some good news with you very soon.

Last night I had an idea for a shaker card that I HAD TO MAKE. I was watching a movie with my husband when the idea came to me and I got up and went to my craft room. He asked if I wanted him to wait for me to continue watching and I told him to go ahead without me. He gets it. He gets me.

Anywho - more about the shaker card.

I used products from the TOTALLY RAD BUNDLE which is part of the FOREVER 13 RELEASE that hit the shop earlier this week.

I used two patterns from the Totally Rad Patterned Paper Pack, cutting one in a circle and the other in a rectangle. I used the same circle die and the next one down in size to cut a ring for the top of the shaker. I inked that piece up with Tiki Torch and Be Mine inks - I couldn't decide on which one to use so I used them both. I cut a circle from a scrapbook page protector (it's what I had) to make the window for the shaker and adhered it to the circle ring piece. I poured some Paisley Park Sequins onto the patterned circle, added a foam adhesive strip to the back of the window and adhered that to the patterned circle.

The sentiment and the roller skate are from the Let the Good Times Roll stamp and die set. I used a blender pen to color in the roller skate and layered everything onto a card panel that I cut using the Postage Stamp Dies (I use this one a LOT) and then added it to a card base with some craft foam.

FOREVER 13 IS IN THE SHOP!

Today's the day!
Catherine Pooler Designs has come out with super fun release. It's called Forever 13 and it'll have you reminiscing about when you were a young teen. I've been playing with the Totally Rad Bundle and yes, it is totally rad!

My first card features the:

- Let the Good Times Roll Stamp Set
- Let the Good Times Roll Dies
- Totally Rad Patterned Paper

The Totally Rad Patterned Paper makes card making super easy! The colors and patterns are so bright and fun that you don't need to add a whole lot to the card. I stamped and die cut the roller skate, stamped the sentiment and then colored them in using a blender pen and some coordinating ink.
Easy Peasy!

My second card features the:

- At The Rink Background Stamp
- Let the Good Times Roll Stamp Set

This was another easy peasy card. I stamped the At The Rink Background Stamp with versamark ink onto water color paper. I used my MISTI for this so I could stamp it a couple of times to be sure I had good coverage. I heat set it with black embossing powder.
I smooshed the ink pads onto a large stamping block, spritzed it with water a few times then pounced the paper into the ink. I did this a few times being sure to dry completely before adding the next ink color.
I used the small square from the Stitched Squares Die to cut out 4 of the roller skates, added them to a card base with craft foam and then stamped the sentiment.
Told you it was easy peasy lol

Let's talk FREEBIES!
If you order between March 18th and March 23rd (or while supplies last) you get this Make Lemonade 3 x 4 Stamp Set for FREE!

There are lots of new products in the shop that I've linked to below as well. Scroll down to see the twine - yes I said twine. Catherine now has twine in 4 of her amazing ink colors. How cool is that! Some of the new products are showing as sold out but don't panic, they've ordered more.

Leave me a comment telling me what your favorite product in this release is. If you're like me you're sure to have a few.

The Totally Rad Bundle Includes:

- Totally Rad Patterned Paper
- Let the Good Times Roll Stamps & Dies
- Over the Rainbow Die
- At the Rink 6x6 Background Stamp
- Hey There Friend Word Die
- Star Stencil
- Paisley Park Sequins

My first card features the Over the Rainbow Die, the Hey There Friend Word Die

The Over the Rainbow Die is so much fun to play with. I die cut it from white card stock and sponged on different inks for rainbow but this would look super cute done with different patterned papers. (Note to self - make that card). You could do the full rainbow as I did here or you could do half a rainbow. Lots of great ways to use it. I covered the card base with a bunch of the clouds then added the rainbow and two clouds with craft foam. I used the friend portion from the Hey There Friend Word Dies for the sentiment.

This next card ended up differently that I intended. It features the Totally Rad Patterned Paper, the Let the Good Times Roll Stamps Set and the coordinating dies

I started by stamping the sentiment onto the patterned paper but I smudged one of them so I covered it up with some card stock that I blended Be Mine Ink onto and then a little strip of striped paper from the Black Tie Gala Patterned Paper pack. I left the little rainbow uncolored because there's already so much going with this card.

FOREVER 13 TOTALLY RAD BUNDLE

There's a new release coming from Catherine Pooler Designs and it is TOTALLY RAD! On Wednesday, March 18th (Tuesday, March 17th if you're a StampNation member). This release has been super fun to play with.

The first bundle Catherine revealed was the Totally Rad Bundle and it's my fave! It's full of rainbows, hearts, stars, roller skates and LOTS of bright colors. All the products included in the bundle are listed below. They can be purchased individually but if you purchase the bundle then you get a discount.

The Totally Rad Bundle Includes:

- Totally Rad Patterned Paper
- Let the Good Times Roll Stamps & Dies
- Over the Rainbow Die
- At the Rink 6x6 Background Stamp
- Hey There Friend Word Die
- Star Stencil
- Paisley Park Sequins

Sometimes we don't have a lot of time to stamp but we need to make a card. The products in this release are perfect for that. I used paper and dies with a little embossing on this card - no stamping and I love it! It's a little hard to see in the pic above but I used Wanderlust Embossing Glitter on the word die to add some sparkle and in case you were wondering those 3 sequins from the Paisley Park Sequin Mix are rain drops.

My next card features the Star Stencil, the Let The Good Times Roll Stamp Set and the coordinating dies

I added one drop of Twilight Ink to some embossing paste, spread it over the Star stencil onto some Midnight cardstock and I love how it turned out. When we roller skated in the arena they would have a disco ball and the way it sparkled on the roof made me think of stars.

What's your favorite memory with roller skating or of being a teenager. Leave me a comment, I'd love to hear.

And check this out.

If you order between 3/18 and 3/23 (or while supplies last) you get this Make Lemonade 3 x 4 Stamp Set for FREE!

STENCIL US IN HOP WITH SCRAP'N STAMP

The team at Scrap'n Stamp Canada are hoppin' again and this time the theme is Stencils.  Stencils are definitely an overlooked item in my craft room yet when I do use them I love them - so why don't I use them more?
I'm sure after all the inspiration on this hop I'll be using them a lot more. And guess what?
There's a sale on stencils -20% OFF - until midnight Sunday, March 8th.
Be sure to leave me a comment - I'd love to know what your favorite way to use stencils is. One lucky person who comments will win a $50 Gift Certificate to the SHOP! Think of all the stencils you could buy with that.

I've been sooo busy lately that sadly I haven't had as much time as I'd like to stamp. It's a good busy thankfully. Stencils are great for when you need a quick card. All I did for this card is using a pencil I traced some triangles from the MFT Triangle Stencil onto some Tim Holtz water color paper. Next I grabbed some Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers - I used the rainbow colors -  ROYGBIV - added a little bit of ink at the edges of the triangle and then with a water brush I pulled the ink out to fill in the whole triangle. Super simple and super relaxing too.

Once the card was dry I used a fine black sharpie to outline all the triangles, then I traced on a few smaller ones but did not color them in. I added a few lines of dots for a bit of fun.
I love all the patterns on this card - triangles, dots, and stripes - I'd never do that in an outfit but I love it on the card.

Don't forget to leave me a comment letting me know your favorite technique to do with stencils. And be sure to check out the Sale on Stencils before Midnight Sunday (March 8th).

While you're shopping be sure to use my discount code 10SUSAN to earn you 10% off regular priced items.

Time To Hop!
