Your Vibe, Your Tribe

I can't stop making cards with the Tropically Yours SOA Collection by Catherine Pooler.

I started by masking off a section of the panel and then did some ink blending with Catherine Pooler inks. I started at the bottom with Rockin' Red and worked my way up with Orange Twist and then Tiara. Next I stamped the sentiment from the Fearless Persuit Stamp Set with Midnight ink and then stamped some foliage from the Tropically Yours Stamp Set on the sides using the same inks I used for the ink blending. I finished the card by drawing a line on the edges of the ink blending with a fine black marker. I added the little circle of dots from the Fearless Persuit Stamp Set for a little texture.

The Tropically Yours SOA Collection includes the following:

- Stand Tall Stamp Set
- Tropically Yours Stamp Set
- Fearless Persuit Stamp Set
- Leave Me in Paradise Stamp Set
- Good Vibes Borders Stamp Set
- Cabana Tiles Die
- Canvas Grunge Background Stamp

And if that's not enough there's even a Project Guide Download full of card ideas by the design team along with step by step instructions.

There's also some Add-ons available:
- Stand Tall Dies
 - Leave Me In Paradise Dies
- Tropically Yours Dies
- Fearless Persuit Dies
- Coral Cabana Ink Pad

Creating a Spotlight on Masculine Monday #65

Back in January I shared this card with you.

It was my first attempt at creating a spotlight effect and while I wasn't really happy with it I shared it with you. I wanted to share my journey while I learn more about coloring and I wanted to invite you along with me on that journey and encourage you to try something new too.

Well, it's been a while but that card has been in the back of my mind and I finally gave it another shot.
I was watching a tutorial by Sandy Allnock about creating a spotlight with watercolors and thought I would give it a try. You can watch her tutorial HEREShe is amazingly talented!

This is my first attempt at creating a spotlight with watercoloring. As much as I am unhappy with the result I am equally happy because I did it - finally.  I showed it to my husband and he was impressed although he might have just been kind in saying that but I'm choosing to believe him lol.

The idea is you start by stamping your image onto watercolor paper. Sandy Allnock says that rough paper would be better but I didn't have any so I worked with what I had. Next you cover up the image with some masking fluid and when it's dry you can start the watercoloring process.

You start by covering all but an oval shape under the image with a blue/black color of paint and a large brush. I didn't have either so I mixed some blue and black together as I went and used a brush probably half the size I should have. I wish I took some pics of the process along the way but I was focused on the painting.
You build up a couple of layers of paint keeping it darker towards the outer edges. Heat set this to almost dry but not completely. Tilt your card and spray some water down the center starting at the bottom so the paint thins out and runs off the top edge. This is supposed to give you a marbeling effect but I don't think I got it which could be in part to the fact that my paper was smooth.

Once you do that, dry it again and then build up the color on the outer edges for contrast. Once it was all dry I removed the masking fluid with an eraser and then watercolored the image in.

Be sure to check out Sandy's video tutorial to see how it should look.

Okay, so I realize I sound a little negative in this post. I sometimes tend to focus on what went wrong instead of what went right but in this instance it's good to note where you can improve.
I'm not an artist and I don't pretend to be one. I'm having fun learning new skills and sharing that journey with you and I hope I'm encouraging you to try things that are out of your comfort zone too because it's fun!

I throughly enjoyed the whole process of making this card and will try it again soon with a different image. Hopefully I'll have improved some by then lol.

AND

This new ink is a gorgeous color!
It's a great day!

I have three cards to share with you today.
My first one features:
- Canvas Grunge Background stamp
- Fearless Pursuit stamp set
- Cabana Tiles Die
- Coral Cabana ink

I stamped the card base with the Canvas Grunge Background stamp and versamark ink. I heat set it with white embossing powder and sponged on Coral Cabana ink. The sentiment is from the Fearless Pursuit stamp set and stamped with midnight ink onto a card panel stamped with the Canvas Grunge Background stamp and Coral Cabana ink and then layered onto a piece of midnight card stock with some craft foam.

The white panel is die cut with the Cabana Tiles Die, each piece adhered to a piece of Midnight card stock and then to the card base.

My next card features:
- Stand Tall stamp set
- Stand Tall dies (add on)
- Cabana Tiles Dies
- Coral Cabana ink

I die cut a piece of white card stock with the Cabana Tiles die and adhered all the pieces onto another piece of white cardstock. I sponged the whole piece with Aquatini, Melon Ice and Coral Cabana inks and added it to a card base with craft foam.

The flamingos are cut from midnight card stock - one adhered directly to the inked panel and one adhered with craft foam. The sentiment is stamped with midnight ink and the edges sponged with Aquatini and Melon Ice ink. The grass is stamped with midnight ink, cut out with the coordinating die and adhered directly to the card panel.

My last card features:
- Cabana Tiles Die
- Fearless Pursuit stamp set
- Good Vibes Borders stamp set
- Coral Cabana ink

This last one is not my usual style and makes me think of The Partridge Family - I watched that show all the time!

I die cut a piece of white and midnight card stock with the Cabana Tiles Die. I adhered the black frame pieces to some white card stock, inked up half of the inside pieces with Coral Cabana ink and adhered them all back into their original positions. Then I cut out each tile, adding some directly to a card panel and some with craft foam after I stamped the sentiment. I added this panel to a piece of white card stock with one of the border stamps stamped down the edge and then added all of it to the card base.

Tropically Yours SOA - Here Comes The Sun

Hi Everyone! It's day 3 of the blog hops celebrating the release of the Tropically Yours Stamp of Approval collection by Catherine Pooler. You can find the links for all three days on Catherine's blog.

I'm not part of today's hop but I have another card I wanted to share with you. This one features the following products:
- Fearless Pursuit stamp set
- Fearless Pursuit dies (add on)

This card makes me want to go somewhere tropical!
I feel myself relaxing just looking at it.

I started by die cutting out the palm trees and then stamping - I find it easier that way - using Eucalyptus and Over Coffee inks. Next I tore some Sand Dunes card stock, sponged the edges with Over Coffee ink and then layered it on the bottom of the panel. I stamped the sentiment in Midnight ink and the sun in Limencello ink. The smaller tree is added directly to the panel and the larger one with craft foam for some dimension. Lastly the panel is added to the card base with some more craft foam for some more dimension.

Do you have your name on the wait list yet? If not, click HERE to remedy that. These collections have been known to sell out in just a few hours.

Catherine Pooler's Tropically Yours Blog Hop Day 2

Welcome to Day 2 of the Tropically Yours Stamp of Approval blog hops. This is seriously the best SOA yet. I love every single item in the collection.

If you haven't heard of Stamp of Approval before it is a hand-picked collection of exclusive stamping supplies created by Catherine Pooler Designs. These collections contain everything you need to make a ton of cards. And in case you need some inspiration, it even comes with a PDF download of sample cards complete with instructions.

So when can you get yours?
July 18th is the day!
The Tropically Yours collection will be released at 9am on July 18th to the people on the wait list. Not on the wait lest yet? Click HERE to remedy that. Then at 6pm sales will be open to the general public.
BUT if you're a StampNation member you will get early access to purchase on July 17th - just one of the many perks of being a member.

I have three more cards for you today.
My first one features:
- Canvas Grunge Background stamp
- Good Vibes Borders stamps
- Fearless Pursuit stamp set
- Leave Me In Paradise stamp set
- Leave Me In Paradise dies (add on)
- Coral Cabana ink (add on)

This card is very different from all the others that I've made with the collection and it's one of my favorites too.

I started by stamping the Canvas Grunge Background stamp with versamark ink onto a piece of watercolor paper and then heat setting it with white embossing powder. I used the ink smooshing technique with Coral Cabana, Green Tea and Over Coffee ink. Start with the lightest color, smoosh the ink pad onto a craft mat, give it a few sprays of water and then pounce the paper into the ink. Dry with a heat gun between each color. Using stamps from the Good Vibes Borders stamp set and some Icing on the cake ink, stamp partial images in the corners. It doesn't show the patterns very well but it does add a lot of texture.

I stamped the sentiment from the Fearless Pursuit stamp set with Icing on the Cake ink, cut it down to just the size of the sentiment and sponged the edges.
I inked up all the leaves from the Leave Me In Paradise stamp set with versamark ink without removing them off the package and stamped them onto vellum. And check this out. All the Leave Me In Paradies dies fit and I can cut them out all at once! Love that!

My next card features:
- Tropically Yours stamp set
- Tropically Yours dies (add on)
- Good Vibes Borders stamp set
- Fearless Pursuit stamp set

The bottom piece is stamped with the Good Vibes Border stamps, Midnight and Coral Cabana ink. The dot is from the Fearless Pursuit stamp set and stamped with Lime Rickey, Aquatini and Limoncello inks.
The top piece is stamped with the Tropically Yours stamp set, Lime Rickey, Coral Cabana, Limoncello, Aquatini and Midnight inks. The sentiment is from the Good Vibes Borders stamp set and the dots are from the Tropically Yours stamp set.
I add both pieces to a piece of midnight card stock and embossed a couple border stamps in the space in the middle.
The flowers are stamped using all the same ink colors with the Tropically Yours stamp set, cut out with the coordinating dies and then added to the card.

My last card is much cleaner and simpler than the other two.
This card features:
- Tropically Yours stamp set
- Fearless Pursuit stamp set
- Stand Tall stamp set
- Stand Tall dies (add on)

I started by covering the base of a card with a leaf image from the TropicallyYours stamp set using Lime Rickey ink. The flamingo is from the Stand Tall stamp set, stamped with Midnight ink and cut out with the coordinating die. I used a blender pen and some Coral Cabana ink to color him in. The sentiment and the dots are from the Fearless Pursuit stamp set and inked with Midnight ink.

Tropically Yours SOA is Almost Here

The Tropically Yours Stamp of Approval collection is coming soon!

We're celebrating the release with a 3 Days of blog hops. Today is day 1. I'm part of day 2 but I have so many cards to share - I can't seem to stop creating with these supplies. I have a link for Day 1 for you below.

My first card for you today features:
- Stand Tall stamp set
- Stand Tall dies (add on)
- Tropically Yours stamp set
- Coral Cabana ink pad (add on)

This was the first card I made with the collection and I love it! As I sit writing this I realized that I forgot to add the center of the flowers - oops - oh well, I still love it.

I started by stamping one of the flower images from the Tropically Yours set randomly over a piece of white cardstock using Coral Cabana, Tutti Frutti, Tiki Torch, Rockin' Red and Orange Twist. I did some first and second generation stamping. I stamped the leaf images using Garden Party. I stamped the flamingo with midnight ink and colored him in using a blender pen and Coral Cabanda ink and then cut him out with the coordinating die.
I stamped the Aloha directly onto the card panel and added the flamingo and the sentiment with some craft foam for dimension.

My next card features:
- Good Vibes Borders stamp set
- Tropically Yours stamp set
- Tropically Yours dies (add on)
Leave Me In Paradise stamp set
- Leave Me in Paradise dies (add on)

I wanted the look of black and white designer paper so I used one of the images from the Good Vibes Border stamp set and some Midnight ink and made my own. I stamped some leaves from the Leave Me In Paradise stamp set using Green Tea, Eucalyptus and Mandarin Spice inks and cut them out with the coordinating dies. I stamped a couple flowers from the Tropically Yours stamp set using Peppermint Scrub, Sauna and Mandarin Spice inks and cut them out with the coordinating dies. I stamped the sentiment on a strip of white cardstock and add the flowers and leaves in a cluster, some directly to the card and some with some craft foam for dimension. I tucked in a couple of thin strips of black cardstock to frame out the sentiment.

My last card for you today features:
- Stand Tall stamp set
- Stand Tall dies (Add on)
- Coral Cabana ink (add on)

I stamped one of the flamingos with Midnight ink repeatedly over the lower portion of a piece of white cardstock using a mask. The image is stamped with Midnight ink also. I stamped one peacock onto a separate piece of cardstock, colored him in with Coral Cabana ink and a blender pen, cut him out with the coordinating die and added him with some craft foam so he appears to be standing tall and looking fabulous as the sentiment says.

As promised, here is the link to Day 1 of the 3 day blog hop.
Catherine is giving away a Stamp of Approval collection to THREE lucky commenters (one each day), so be sure to leave a comment at each stop on the hop.

I hope you enjoyed my cards and come back tomorrow for Day 2 and more inspiration.

Happy Stampin'
and thanks so much for visiting!
