March Canvo Spread and a Tip

It's amazing to me how much working in my Canvo can calm me. I'm not usually one to stress about things but I can get overwhelmed when I have a lot to do. I'm a PROcrastinator which causes me to get overwhelmed - I know it's an easy fix - or is it? If you're a procrastinator like me then you get it. Plus I'm not the most organized person (insert gasp here haha). I've had a goal for FOREVER to get myself organized and I always felt that a planner would magically make that happen - the problem is you have to use it. I would always start strong and then it would sit on the shelf. But my Canvo is not sitting on my shelf! It's getting used and it's fun! It goes everywhere with me. I get to be as creative as I want - some days are more than others but I'm using it!

The last few months I was doing one page spreads and it was working but I'm finding that the busier I get I need more space to write things down. Having it all crammed into one page was making me feel a little overwhelmed.

So here's my first 2 page spread.
(I forgot to take the pic before I started writing in it so excuse the scraps of paper covering things up)

With all the cold and windy weather we've been having I felt the need to pull out some tropical stamps and warm this page up.
I'm also trying a color-coding system to help make commitments stand out better.

I'm trying out a Coming Soon and Goals sections this month. I think if I see what commitments I have coming up it might help me to get them done early. I also want to give myself 3 goals every month. They could be anything but I think if I write them down and see them I may will achieve them.

I'm going to make myself some tea and finish filling this spread out - including my goals. But before I go I have a little tip I want to share.
Do you use sticky notes in your planner? I like to use them when I have something happening but not sure of the date. I put it on a sticky note and into my calendar and when I know for sure what date it's happening I remove the sticky note and write it down. Somethings I just write in pencil but I like the bright sticky notes - it helps to not forget about whatever's written on it like I've done when I just write in pencil in my planner.
Okay, so here's the tip.
I bought one of those packages of sticky notes that's for putting in a ring binder. Well the Canvo doesn't have rings but it has a coil which when you add paper clips to the holes in the sticky notes and then put the other end through the coil of the Canvo...

...you'll always have your sticky notes with you! I love this idea.
You'll see above that I forgot to make an index so I used some washi tape and stuck some pages to the inside of my cover.

Masculine Monday #78 with Stampin' Up!

I hope everyone is having a great start to the week.
I had fun making this weeks' Masculine Monday card that features the Geared Up Garage stamp set from Stampin' Up (link below).

Here is a pic of all the supplies I used - except for the designer paper. I used some from my retired bin that I am still trying to use up, but I linked to some coordinating paper below for you.

I started by taking the car from the Geared up Garage and my new favorite gray ink - Gray Granite - and stamped it repeatedly onto a piece of white cardstock cut to 4 x 5 1/4" to make my own designer paper. The trick to this is to make sure you stamp some of the images off the edge - it makes it look like you cut it from a larger piece.
Next I stamped one more car onto some scrap white cardstock, colored it in with a blender pen and some Poppy Parade ink. I used the black marker to color in the tires and then I die cut it out with the coordinating die.
The sentiment is from Sunshine Sayings and stamped in Poppy Parade then cut into a little banner. I used a scrap of black paper to cut another banner to put behind it.
To put it together I adhered the stamped panel to a white card base cut to 4 1/4 x 11" and scored at 5 1/2". I searched through my designer paper pile and pulled out a piece that worked well with the design, cut it to 5 1/4" in length, tore one of the long edges and adhered that to the card. I adhered the car with some craft foam that I cut with the car die for some dimension.
Finally I added the sentiment by tucking it under the torn edge .

This was pretty quick and easy. I love using my stamps to make my own paper - I don't do it that often - not sure why - I need to do it more :)

I'm playing along with the Seize the Birthday Anything Goes #159 challenge. There's still a bit of time left if you want to join in on the fun.

Cottage Garden Background Stamp is WONDERFUL!

This is one of my favorite stamp sets from Catherine Pooler Designs Welcome Home Release
It's called the Cottage Garden Background Stamp and it's gorgeous!
You can buy it on it's own or as part of a bundle which I think I need to order.
I also used the new Awesome & Wonderful stamp set and yes, it's properly named :)

Now for the card. How did I make this you ask?
Well, let me tell you :)

I started by inking up the background stamp with versamark ink and stamping it onto a piece of Sand Dunes Cardstock and then heat setting it with Gold Embossing Powder
I grabbed some pencil crayons and started coloring. I used a white for the flowers and a couple of greens for the leaves. I was going to stop there because I wanted the color of the cardstock to show but I decided to add some shading. I grabbed a gray pencil crayon and went around all the edges and then blended it out with the white pencil crayon.
I stared at it thinking, 'Now what do I do for a sentiment?'
Vellum Cardstock to the rescue!
I stamped the sentiment with versamark onto a strip of vellum cut longer than the width of the panel. I heat set it with the same gold embossing powder as I used on the background. When it cooled I wrapped it around the panel and adhered it to the back. I added a piece of craft foam to the back of the panel and adhered that to the card base.

I showed this card to my husband and he said, 'Wow, how long did that take you?' It actually was very quick to make and easy too.

Have you checked out the new release yet?

The products I used on my card today are listed below with links for you.

A Pineapple Party at The Card Concept

For the newest challenge at The Card Concept we're having a Pineapple Party.
You're right. There's no pineapple on my card. How can it be a Pineapple Party if there's no pineapple on my card?
Well, my pineapple was in my drink and I drank it!

I was inspired by the stripes in the background and the leaves to make my clean and simple card. Where's the pineapple you ask? Well, I don't have any pineapple stamps. Yes, I could've gotten creative and made one with a couple of stamps that would work but honestly, I wasn't feeling it. And that's okay. Whatever way this photo inspires you to create is perfect. The key is to create and have fun.

I used the Party Dress Mini Ink Pad from Catherine Pooler Designs (actually all my products today are from Catherine Pooler Designs except for the stitcched rectangle die I used on the card panel - that's from lawn fawn) and swiped it across the card panel a few times to make the stripes. Next I took one of my favorite sentiments from the Fearless Pursuit Stamp Set from the Tropically Yours Stamp of Approval collection from Catherine Pooler Designs and stamped it in Midnight Ink.
I added this panel to the card base then stamped a few of the leaves from the Tropically Yours stamp set also from the same SOA collection using Lime Rickey and Melon Ice ink and then cut them out with their coordinating die. I adhered some of them directly to the card panel and popped a couple of them up with craft foam.

How does this photo inspire you?

I look forward to seeing your creations in the gallery.

Masculine Monday #77

You know those days when you wake up and think it's going to be a great day and then something happens...

...and then you realize it's Monday and you haven't made the card for Masculine Monday #77 yet.  The good thing about today is that it's Family Day and I have the day off. YAY! I have the place to myself - just me and my puppy so after my hubby left for work I started the day with some simple stamping and combined it with a couple of challenges over at AAA Cards and Seize the Birthday.

The one corner challenge was perfect for me this morning since I needed something quick. I started by stamping the Happy Birthday sentiment then the You're Awesome sentiment and finally the headphones. I grabbed a few neutral Prismacolor pencil crayons and did some quick coloring.

Honestly, it took longer to photograph the card and write this blog post than it did to make the card. But that's okay because I made myself another cuppa chai to sip while I typed this up.

Have you played along in the challenges?

Happy Birthday Amber

I was spending some time in my craft room today and had pulled out
the stamp set Amber's World to play with.

While I was playing a message popped up from Catherine Pooler saying that today would have been Amber's birthday. Amber Shaw is the amazingly talented lady who designed the stamp and die set but sadly passed away in a house fire before it was released.

Remember to hug your loved ones and tell them how much they mean to you because you never know what can happen.

It is such a beautiful set.

Some Like it Hot with Scrap'n Stamp

Welcome to the February blog hop!
This month the theme is SOME LIKE IT HOT and with the cold weather we've been having this challenge seems fitting.
We will be giving away 9 prizes - 8 Some Like it Hot prize packs and one $50 Gift Certificate. Prizes will be chosen randomly from all the comments that are left along the blog hop. So please, leave your comments - we enjoy reading them.
Have you checked out the Facebook Challenge Page yet? You've got until the end of the month to play along with us there.

I may not drink coffee but I love coffee cards and coffee shops - not weird at all.
I'm a huge fan of chai so I order those when I'm in the coffee shop.
My card today features Penny Blacks  Saying a Latte Stamp Set, My Favorite Things Coffee Break Stamp Set, Stampin' Up's Timeless Textures, Tim Holtz Distress Crayons Set 1 and Set 3 and some stencils and retired designer paper.

I started by covering some watercolor card stock with white gesso. When it was dry I added some Walnut Stain, Vintage Photo and Black Soot distressed crayons and using a water brush I spread the color around.
Next I grabbed some stencils and some more of the same distress crayons and colored them in, smooshed them around with my finger. Next I moved the stencil a bit and used a wet wipe to pull away some of the ink. To finish that piece I sponged some brown and black ink around the edge.

For the main image I stamped the girl with versafine onyx black ink and fussy cut it out. I used Mustard Seed, Fossilized Amber, Spiced Marmalade, Rusty Hinge, Picked Raspberry, Mermaid Lagoon, Vintage Photo, Walnut Stain, Antique Linen and Black Soot to color it all in. I smooshed some of the crayon onto a clear stamping block, added a little water and with a water brush set about coloring in the image.

To finish off the card I went through my scrap pile of retired designer paper. I chose patterns and colors that would compliment the mixed media piece as well as the girl drinking her coffee (I like to think it's chai). I sponged the edges of the orange and yellow pieces with black ink as well as the sentiment strip.
I adhered the black designer piece directly to the card base and then layered on the orange and yellow pieces, then the mixed media piece. I added the image and the sentiment with craft foam for some dimension.

I love playing with stencils and mixed media because it's always fun to play with products and build layers of texture.

Now, it's time to hop some more and leave your comments.
Here's the list of designers -
Have fun and be sure to join us in the challenge over on Facebook. Looking forward to seeing what you make.

Welcome Home Release Day

On Monday we had a BLOG HOP,
we had a VIDEO HOP yesterday,
and today we're doing an INSTAGRAM HOP

And if you leave comments at all the stops on the hops you increase your chances of winning one of the $25 Gift Certificates to Catherine's store.

My card today uses the following items:
- Cottage Garden Background Stamp Set
- Happy Place Stamp Set
- Blowing Bubbles Border Dies
and an oldie but a goodie - the Tags etc dies.

I stamped the Cottage Garden Background Stamp onto some white cardstock and die cut it with the tags die. Next I grabbed my blender pen and some inks and had some fun coloring. I used Eucalyptus and Limencello for the leaves, Limoncello, Sauna, Sugared Lavender, Rose Petals, Mandarine Spice and Peppermint Scrub for all the flowers.
I added a little sparkle on the flowers with a Spectrum Noir glitter pen.
The sentiment is from the Happy Place stamp set and the little 'lace' piece is cut from the Blowing Bubbles Border die.
Some black twine and a bit of craft foam for dimension and this card is done.

Below are all the stamps and dies from this release as well as a few other new items. I can honestly tell you that while I didn't play with every new item, every new item I played with I loved. I was blown away by all the inspiration I found from the design team on all the hops. Be sure to check them all out.

More With The Welcome Home Release

Hi Everyone!

Did you get a chance to check out the blog hop yesterday?  If you missed it don't worry, you can start HERE and be sure to leave a comment at every stop for your chance to win a $25 Gift Certificate to shop in Catherine's store

I've got a couple of super quick and easy cards for you to share with you today.

My first two cards are the same technique but use different stamp sets.
The first card features the Happy Place Stamp Set
and the second one features the Beautiful Ride Stamp Set and the Awesome & Wonderful Stamp Set.

I started by cutting a piece of masking paper to 41/4 x 5 1/2" and then die cut a circle out of that. I then placed the piece with the circle cut out of it onto the card front and then using Rockin' Red, Samba, Party Dress, Tiki Torch and Limoncello inks and a blending tool I created the sunset.
After peeling off the mask I stamped the images and the sentiments using Midnight ink.

My other card for today features the Beautiful Ride Stamp Set.

I kept this one pretty clean and simple as well. I started by stamping the bike and the sentiment with Midnight ink onto a piece of Sand Dunes card stock. I stamped it off the edge of the paper on purpose. I used some Rockin' Red and Peppermint Scrub inks with a blender pen to color in the bike. I used Twilight, Black Jack and Midnight inks to color in the rest of the bike and to add some shading underneath. The basket is colored with Icing on the Cake and Over Coffee inks. I don't have any white inks so I used a white paint pen to color in the dog.  I was going to do a one layer card but I felt it needed that little bit of a black frame to finish it.

There's a video hop today which you can check out HERE.

Catherine Pooler Welcome Home Release Blog Hop

It's Blog Hop Day!
Catherine Pooler has a new release and it's chock full of amazing stamps and dies and hits her store on the 13th.
I loved playing with these products - before I'd finish one card I'd have an idea for another.

I have a few cards for you today so let's get started.
The first one features the following:
- Beautiful Ride Stamp Set
- Beautiful Ride Dies
- Strolling Borders Stamp Set
- Happy Place Stamp Set

I combined some Peppermint Scrub and Icing on the Cake inks for the brick wall. One of my favorite things to do with Catherine's inks is to watercolor with them so that's what I did with the rest of the card. I used the coordinating dies to cut everything out and then I added them to the card panel with some craft foam.

My second card features the following:
- Happy Place Stamp Set
- Happy Place Dies

I made the background using the Twisted Sunburst Stencil and blending on Limoncello, Tiara, Tiki Torch and Sauna inks. I rotated the stencil slightly 3x and blended on more ink each time. I stamped the images with Midnight ink, colored them in with a blender pen, cut them out with the coordinating dies and adhered them to the card.

My next card features the following:
- Cottage Garden Background Stamp
- Awesome & Wonderful Stamp Set

I masked off a rectangle on a piece of Sand Dunes card stock and stamped the Cottage Garden Background stamp with versamark ink. I embossed it with gold embossing powder and colored it all in with some of the neutral inks. I used a thin black sharpie and outlined the edges, layered it on some Midnight cardstock and then onto a white card base. The Wonderful word die was perfect to finish off this card paired with the embossed 'perfectly' sentiment.

My last card features the following:
- Strolling Borders Stamp Set
- Awesome & Wonderful Stamp Set

This last card was really quick and easy. I blended Twilight, Black Jack and Midnight inks on one of the Strolling Borders Stamp set stamps and stamped it repeatedly across the card panel. I blended some Midnight ink around the top edges and stamped the sentiment in Midnight. A little bit of twine wrapped under the sentiment and then added to the card base with some craft foam.

Now it's time to hop!
Be sure to leave a comment at all the stops because Catherine is giving away a $25 Gift Certificate to her store. Winners will be announced on Catherine's blog on the evening of the 18th.
