Scrap’n Stamp Gel Pen Hop

Hello and welcome to another hop with Scrap'n Stamp Canada. This month we are all using Gel Pens on our projects. I've never used gel pens on a card before for more than highlighting but I did a little research (looking around Pinterest) and found that you can watercolor with them so that's what I did.

If you've been wanting to play with gel pens but haven't purchased any yet the 20% OFF sale on all things Sakura is the perfect time to get some pens and give it a try.

I started by embossing part of the beautiful floral image from Pinkfresh Studios Miss Your Smile Stamp Set with white embossing powder onto some white card stock. To color the image I added a little bit of color from the Galaxy Pack of gelly roll pens - I used the pink and purple pens for the flowers - to the base of the flower and then using a water brush I pulled the color out. I repeated the process until I had added color to all the flowers and then did the same for the leaves.

Once everything was dry I repeated the process but didn't blend the color out as far. I decided I wanted some darker areas on the tips of some of the petals so I added color there and then blended it back into the flower.
I used the blue gelly roll pen from the Galaxy Pack to add the shading around the image.

I had heard that these pens look beautiful on black card stock so I thought i would recreate the same card on black card stock. I have to say I'm not a fan. I love the pens but not how they look on the black card stock.

I colored this card using the same colors as on the white card but I didn't add the blue around the image. I cut both panels using the second largest die in the Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Rectangle Die Set.
On the first card I embossed the sentiment onto a piece of black card stock and on this card I embossed it directly onto the panel.
I added both panels to a white card base using craft foam.

Time to Hop!!

Wow the versatility those pins offer is crazy. I have never used then before. I love your cards - very feminine and beautiful. Cheers. Rachelle A.

So pretty, I love how you got the shading, especially on the white background! (Tara)

I love the way that you blended out the colours in the flowers. And I agree, the black background doesn't really work for this technique.

Oh boy that is a lovely effect. Me too, I've only used a white gel pen to dit and dot around edges and little image dashes. This is gorgeous. Had no idea a waterpen could do that. Thanks!

I love the one on white and agree that the one on black is not my favorite either. I'm going to try your suggestion of adding more color after the first layer dries...more depth!

I do like the white background, not a fan of the black background.
