Poignant Poppies Blog Hop with SNS

The theme for this months Hop at Scrap'n Stamp Canada is Poppies.
Poppies are a symbol of the end of the war and are worn to honor the fallen soldiers.

I chose to make a simple yet classy sympathy card with the Painted Poppies Stamp Set from My Favorite Things. The sentiment is from another gorgeous set from My Favorite Things called Beautiful Blessings 2 - check out the font, it's so pretty!

I used a piece of Distress Watercolor Cardstock from Tim Holtz. It comes in a pack of 20 panels cut to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". I stamped the poppies with Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink, poured on some WOW Clear Embossing Powder and heat set it with my heat gun. This gives it a bit of a raised edge which helps keep the ink where you want it. I used some Zig Clean Colour Real Brush Markers and a water brush to paint with. When I showed my husband this card he was so impressed that I didn't want to share with him how easy it was but I did.
All I do is add the color directly from the marker to the part of the petal that I want to be the darkest and then I use the water brush to pull the color out to the rest of the petal. It's that easy! I let it dry and then if there are areas I want darker I do it again. For the shadow I used a light gray, added some color around the edges and used the water brush to spread it around.

I stamped the sentiment with versamark ink onto a dark gray card stock panel and heat set it with some WOW White Embossing Powder. I layered the poppies onto the panel with craft foam and then added the panel to a card base the same color as the panel.

So, as mentioned earlier this is a Hop and you know what that means. Leave a comment below for your chance to win a $50 Gift Certificate to the Scrap'n Stamp Store. Leave a comment at every stop along the hop to increase your chances to win.
PLUS there is 20% off poppy (the flower not the company) stamps and dies this weekend. (Nov.1-3)

Time to hop!

Happy Stampin'
and thanks so much for visiting!
