MAKING SPIRITS BRIGHT

We've been having fun with some challenges over on StampNation. The theme this week is Duck Duck Goose.
The challenge is to feature a repeating design with one surprise element on your holiday project.
I kind of struggled with this one and what I came up with may or may not meet the challenge requirements but the main purpose of the challenge is to inspire you to make cards and have fun and that I definitely accomplished.

I love these penguins!
I started with the top panel. I stamped the penguins and colored them in, drew a line for the snow, stamped the snowflakes and the sentiment and then cut the opening. I positioned a stitched rectangle die over the image and placed my top cover plate so it lined up with the top edge but didn't cover it. This allows the other 3 sides to be cut but not the top edge. I scored the top edge and added a score line in the center of what is now the flap. I stamped and colored another set of penguins to adhere to the flap but only to the bottom of the flap. This allows the penguins to stand up when pulled open.

I stamped and colored the images that you see inside on another piece of card stock and drew another line for the snow - it didn't quite line up but that's okay.
To create the piece to open the rectangle I cut a piece of card stock a little wider than the opening. Add a piece of strong adhesive tape to the bottom of the inside of the flap and adhere the pull piece to it. Make sure there is no adhesive going past the width of the flap. I have this old long rectangle punch with an oval end that I thought would make a good handle for the pull tab.

I used craft foam to put behind the top panel around the two sides and the bottom. Make sure it's not too wide so you can't pull the tab piece up. I adhered this to the other penguin panel and then adhered that to a card base. You could skip this step by creating your inside image on the card base but I didn't think of that when I was making it.

I'm going with the penguins as my repeating element and the surprise element is that it opens to see more penguins.

I know a couple other team members made cards for this challenge and I can't wait to see what they did.

Happy Stampin'

and thanks so much for visiting!

Stay safe everyone!!
