HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!
I was trying to think of some good New Year's resolutions last week when I decided instead to make New Life's resolutions. I want to make changes that will help me to have a better life and then it was easy. I decided that I would do more of the things that make me happy and healthy.
And that's what I wish for everyone.
To be happy and healthy.
Okay, let's talk about this hop.
It's the first one of the year and it's a fun one!
SNARKY NEW YEAR!
I loved this idea and I think it's safe to say that the ladies on the design team at Scrap'N Stamp had a blast making cards with this theme in mind.
And of course what's a hop without a prize?
One lucky person will receive a $50 GIFT CERTIFICATE to the
Scrap'N Stamp Shop - just be sure to leave a comment at all the
stops along the hop for your chance to win.
Okay, now that we've taken care of the business let's talk about the card.
I went with a snarky birthday themed card.
When I showed my husband the card he thought it was really good but was worried the sentiment might be hurtful. I told him that the key to snarky being funny is knowing who to say it to. I would never give this card to anyone who was sensitive about their age. I'll most likely give it to one of my brothers who are 1 and 3 years older than me - and they appreciate a good snarky comment.
All right, back to the card. I chose to use the Delightful Dinosaurs stamps and coordinating dies from My Favorite Things. I used them once before on a Christmas card that you can see here.
I started by stamping the dinosaurs and that bat thing (no idea what it's called) using Versafine Clair Nocturne ink and my MISTI. I used my MISTI so that when I finished coloring them with my Copics (I colored the green one with my Prismacolor pencils), I put the paper back into my MISTI where I left all the stamps and re-stamped the images with the same black ink. This helps to make the images crisp again. Next I cut them out with the coordinating dies. I love a good stamp and die set!
Now to figure out the background. I knew I wanted it to look prehistoric-ish but I don't have any stamps and dies for that so I made it myself. I started by making a panel with a piece of white card stock from Lawn Fawn and the largest die from the Stitched Rectangle Die also from Lawn Fawn. I used the Cloud Stencil from My Favorite Things along with some Tumbled Glass Distress Ink and an Ink Blending Tool to make the sky. Next I cut a piece of light brown card stock with the same rectangle die and tore off one edge, sponged all the edges with some
Vintage Photo Distress Ink and then added it to the bottom of the panel. Next I grabbed some green card stock and with my scissors I cut some hills, sponged them with some Crushed Olive Distress Ink, added a few dots around the edges with my copics then added them to the panel tucking them in behind the ground piece.
The sentiment is stamped with the same black ink I stamped the images with. I did a little masking because the original sentiment only had one 'long' in it and I wanted 3 of them.
I adhered the panel to the card using craft foam and then adhered the images to the panel. I adhered them all directly to the panel except for that creature on the bottom left - I used craft foam for him.
Now, which brother should I send it too? hmmmm
