Inspired by the Tesselaar Tulip Festival in Australia.

Over on StampNation we're celebrating World Card Making Day all month! Yup! All month! We posted challenges all weekend that were inspired by Festivals from around the world BUT you have all month to play along and then some lucky people are going to win some awesome prizes. The challenges stay up forever on StampNation but there is a deadline to enter for prizes and I think that is the 28th of this month so lots of time to make cards.

I plan on making a card for each challenge and I'm starting with Ashlee's from day 2. It's all about the Tesselaar Tulip Festival in Australia. We have a tulip festival here in BC every year but I've never been. I've driven by it a few times but never checked it out. I should do that one year.

To see the mood board that Ashlee made to inspire us you'll have to go to StampNation but I'll tell you I was inspired by the rows of pink and white tulips. What makes this odd for me is that I'm not a huge fan of flowers - sometimes I can't tell the difference between a weed and a flower - and I've never been much of a fan of pink. But that's changed. Thanks to my sister and her encouragement I now own quite a few pink items of clothing. But I digress - back to the card.

Instead of making a row of tulips, I decided to make a wreath since it's round like the world. The wreath itself was the easy part as I have this beautiful wreath builder stamp set from Catherine Pooler Designs called Sweet Home Wreath. The greenery is from that set as well. I stamped the wreath and the greenery using Sage ink - such a beautiful shade of green. The little dots are also from this stamp set and I stamped them with Be Mine ink.
The tulips, that was a little harder. I was sure I had a stamp that was a tulip but I couldn't find it (I did find it after I made the card) so I used a leaf from a set from Winnie and Walter called The Big, The Bold and Extras. As I'm writing this up I realized that the tulips are missing a petal. I forgot to add the middle petal so I added it and here it is again. It looked fine with just the two petals but it looks better with three.

I stamped the 'petals' with It's a Girl ink and then just inked up the bottom of the 'petal' with Be Mine ink and used my finger to blend them together.  Super easy. I did this three times to create each flower. I die cut the panel using a stitched rectangle die from Lawn Fawn and added the panel to a gray card base using craft foam.

The sentiment is from the Fluttering Friends stamp set from CP Designs. I stamped it with versamark ink onto black card stock and then heat embossed it with white embossing powder from WOW. You may or may not have noticed that this is a 'go-to' for me with sentiments. It's easy and is a great way to add some contrast to a card.
I finished the card off with a few clear gems that I found in my stash the other day. I think they were from Stampin' Up but they weren't in the original packaging so I'm not sure.

Hmmm, I just realized that tulips are my sister's favorite flower - pink and tulips - I think I need to make her a card.

Happy Stampin'
and thanks so much for visiting!
