Some Like it Hot with Scrap'n Stamp

Welcome to the February blog hop!
This month the theme is SOME LIKE IT HOT and with the cold weather we've been having this challenge seems fitting.
We will be giving away 9 prizes - 8 Some Like it Hot prize packs and one $50 Gift Certificate. Prizes will be chosen randomly from all the comments that are left along the blog hop. So please, leave your comments - we enjoy reading them.
Have you checked out the Facebook Challenge Page yet? You've got until the end of the month to play along with us there.

I may not drink coffee but I love coffee cards and coffee shops - not weird at all.
I'm a huge fan of chai so I order those when I'm in the coffee shop.
My card today features Penny Blacks  Saying a Latte Stamp Set, My Favorite Things Coffee Break Stamp Set, Stampin' Up's Timeless Textures, Tim Holtz Distress Crayons Set 1 and Set 3 and some stencils and retired designer paper.

I started by covering some watercolor card stock with white gesso. When it was dry I added some Walnut Stain, Vintage Photo and Black Soot distressed crayons and using a water brush I spread the color around.
Next I grabbed some stencils and some more of the same distress crayons and colored them in, smooshed them around with my finger. Next I moved the stencil a bit and used a wet wipe to pull away some of the ink. To finish that piece I sponged some brown and black ink around the edge.

For the main image I stamped the girl with versafine onyx black ink and fussy cut it out. I used Mustard Seed, Fossilized Amber, Spiced Marmalade, Rusty Hinge, Picked Raspberry, Mermaid Lagoon, Vintage Photo, Walnut Stain, Antique Linen and Black Soot to color it all in. I smooshed some of the crayon onto a clear stamping block, added a little water and with a water brush set about coloring in the image.

To finish off the card I went through my scrap pile of retired designer paper. I chose patterns and colors that would compliment the mixed media piece as well as the girl drinking her coffee (I like to think it's chai). I sponged the edges of the orange and yellow pieces with black ink as well as the sentiment strip.
I adhered the black designer piece directly to the card base and then layered on the orange and yellow pieces, then the mixed media piece. I added the image and the sentiment with craft foam for some dimension.

I love playing with stencils and mixed media because it's always fun to play with products and build layers of texture.

Now, it's time to hop some more and leave your comments.

Thanks Deb :) I used to avoid going into any coffee shop - couldn't stand the smell and now I love going but I will never be a fan of coffee - of that I am sure :)
