Watercoloring with CP Inks for Masculine Monday #54

I was having trouble finding my creative mojo the last couple of days so I grabbed some watercolor paper, my brushes and some CP inks and thought I'd just have some fun without a plan.

I started by inking up the trees from the Waterfront stamp set from Stampin' Up. This set has been sitting on my desk just begging to get inky for weeks now. I used Spruce ink, gave it a little spritz of water and then stamped it onto some Canson 140lb Cold Press watercolor paper. Be sure to hold it on the paper for a few seconds so the ink has time to sink into the paper. I repeated the process until I had what looked like a forest.

Next I garbbed a tiny paint brush, some more Spruce ink and added some missing details to a few of the trees. I smooshed some Black Jack ink onto a block, gave it a couple of spritz of water and spread it around the bottom of the trees. I left it heavier closer to the trees and thinned it out as I moved it towards the bottom of the card.

I was liking how it was turning out and thought about stopping but decided to try and add some sky. I reached for Juniper Mist as I thought it would be quite dark but as I blended it out on the paper it was quite surprising. It blended out as if I was using a few shades of blue and even a purple. I thought it looked a little stormy and I love storms so I left it.

I stamped the sentiment from CP's Faithful Flutterings set with versamark ink onto a strip of Mirror cardstock and then heat set it with some white embossing powder. I did some sponging around the edges and used craft foam to add it to the card base.

I am by no means a watercolor artist, I have no idea what I'm doing. What I do know is that I have a ton of fun when I'm painting. I build up the layers by adding paint, heat setting it and then adding more. I may have said this before but watercoloring is perfectly imperfect which makes me like it even more.

Happy Stampin'
and thanks so much for visiting!
