I thought I'd play along with the Seize the Birthday challenge today.
The theme this week is Anything Goes and after the day I had
today - well let's just say I was in need of some stamp therapy.
I grabbed some watercolor paper and some Tim Holtz distress ink
and had some fun. I made a few different panels with all kinds of colors
and decided to make this one into a card.
While I was away at the beginning of July I had taken my watercolor
pencils and some stamped bird images from Tim Holtz with me in hopes
of finding time to color.
One morning while we were having coffee and tea I pulled them out
and started coloring. My sister and my Mom were intrigued with what
I was doing and decided to give my watercolor pencils a try.
They loved it!
I colored about 10 different birds that morning - 2 of them made it
to this card.
I stamped the sentiment in versamark and then heat embossed it
in white. It looked a little washed out so I thought I'd use a super
fine black marker and draw in some shadow lines. Brilliant idea!
Or so I thought. That didn't work at all. This card was headed for
the trash so I thought why not try and wipe it off - it can't get any
worse right. Well...I still wasn't sure at this point but I wasn't quite
ready to throw it out just yet.
I used a stencil from Stampin' Up! to sponge the circle background.
There were some scraps and some twine left over from another
card on my desk that helped to ground the black ink 'mess' that
I made out of the sentiment.
I adhered the birds down and decided that I was glad I didn't throw
in the towel on this one. I really love how it all turned out.
I feel so much better now - the stress of the day is all gone!
Happy Stampin'
