Masculine Monday #30

I've been out of town longer than I expected and only brought minimal supplies with me to craft. When I realized I wouldn't be home in time to get a card made for Masculine Monday and there are no craft stores where I am I decided to try the dollar store.

JACKPOT!!!!

I found some pre-made stick on embellishment type of things - I'm not sure of what they're actually called but wow, there are a ton of them around.
I found one that had a motorcycle, helmet, leather jacket and biker gloves and grabbed it. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with them but I knew I had to have them.

While I was working on a card with the supplies that I did bring the idea for this one came to me. I see so many bikers on the highway right now and they always look so relaxed and like the 'living is easy' that when I saw the sentiment on a coffee/tea stamp set that I had brought with me, well the card kind of made itself.

Happy Stampin'

Snow Buddies are the Best!

I love the look on these snowmen's faces! They're perfect for the challenge
we have for you this week at Christmas Card Challenges. Check out the inspiration photo.

I decided to only print the heads of the snowmen and their buttons. Not sure why but I like how it looked. I used some Catherine Pooler inks to 'watercolor' the snowmen's clothes. Not your typical Christmas colors but I like them. I used some chunky embossing enamel for the trim and the pom pom of the hats - that stuff is fun to use - love how it melts onto the card.

Now it's your turn. Click HERE to see what the rest of the DT has come up with to inspire you and I'll see you in the gallery :)

Colorful Week at StampNation

This week we have a beautiful summer color combo challenge going on over at StampNation. The inspiration photo is gorgeous and so inspiring. You'll have to hop on over to StampNation and check it out.

Here's a sneak peek at what some of the DT has created...

...and here's a peek at how I was inspired. I went a little out of my comfort zone for this card and I had such fun making it that I'll be doing more of this style.

More Concord & 9TH Fun with the Lily

I am in love with this lily! For today's card I used it to make some designer paper. I don't know what it is about this color combo but I LOVE it!

I stamped the lily in black and then used Tip Top Taupe from SU for the center of the flower. I've had that ink pad in my shelf for what must be a year or so and it's barely been touched ?????? What is up with that! I absolutely love it and wish I'd started using it a long time ago!
There's a little splatter stamp in the lily set and I thought it would make a good filler in between the flowers so I stamped that in my new fav ink color - yup - the taupe one!
I didn't have any matching card stock to stamp the sentiment on so I used some soft suede - it's not perfect but it works. And then I finished it off with a few little black sequins.

What's your favorite color combo?
What stamp set is seeing the most love in your craft room right now?

Masculine Monday #29 - FORE!

I knew I wanted to make a golfing themed card for this weeks Masculine Monday card but I didn't have any golfing themed stamps. Or so I thought.

I went into my box of retired stamps from Stampin' Up! and pulled out an oldie but a goodie called On The Green. I stamped it in versamark ink 6 times to cover a piece of whisper white card stock and then heat set it with white embossing powder. I then blended some walnut stain distress oxide ink all over the top and wiped the whole piece down with a cloth to remove most of the ink from the white parts.

This is a great way to make your own designer paper.

I punched out two circles and ran them through the big shot with the retired perfect polka dots EF to make golf balls. They looked a little too white against the card so I sponged them with the same walnut stain ink I used on the main piece.

The sentiment is heat embossed in white on soft suede and popped up on some craft foam. This is by far one of my most favorite way to add a sentiment to a card that has a lot going on.

Concord & 9TH - Playing with the Lily

When I was in the craft store the other day this Lily stamp set from
Concord & 9TH jumped out at me and right into my basket! I had a vision
of this card in the store and was eager to play with the stamp but had to
wait a couple of days until I got home.

I love the texture that this dsp has and thought would make a great background for the lily with just a little color. I love how it turned out. I added some splatters to go along with the challenge theme over at Seize the Birthday, a sentiment and some sequins. All in all it was a really quick card to make.

You can check out the challenge HERE.

Concord & 9Th - You Are Here

Concord & 9th is sponsoring this weeks challenge at StampNation.
The theme is Girl Power and you have a chance to win a $25 gift card!

I wasn't thinking about the theme when I made this card, I was thinking about how much I love the You Are Here stamp set. I didn't own any of the C&9th products when this challenge started but I just so happened to be going out of town and found an awesome store called I'm Impressed on Granville Island and bought a couple of their stamp sets. I couldn't wait to get home to play with them!

I stamped the big heart of flowers with versamark ink and then embossed it with gold. I've been seeing lots of pink and gold together and love the look so I thought I'd use that as my inspiration. I used my Zig watercolor brush markers to color the flower in and then fussy cut it out.
The sentiment is heat embossed with gold onto vellum paper and then fussy cut as well. I used some craft foam to pop them both up onto some retired dsp but you could easily recreate those stripes either with a stamp set or some tape and some black ink. The white stripe was the perfect spot for the rest of the sentiment. A few metallic sequins and it's done.

For those of you that don't have any of the C&9th products, be assured when I tell you they are amazing. The stamps are top quality and awesome to work with!

For my fellow stampers in British Columbia, if you don't already know about the store I'm Impressed, you need to check it out. Granville Isalnd is a beautiful and fun place to visit and for the all you other Canadian stampers - you can check them out online or even better, come for a visit to BC.  Here's the link http://www.imimpressed.ca/

Girl Power on StampNation

The challenge theme this week was inspired by the Rwanda Friendship bracelets that are available in Catherine Pooler's online store. The story behind that...being grateful and thankful, being a part of something amazing...crafters and women supporting women (sorry guys!).

Masculine Monday #28

I have to be honest with you - I am not a fan of this card but my husband loves it and that's who I made it for so YAY!

My hubby is getting ready to set out an adventure - he's loading up his packs and putting them on his pedal bike and hitting the road! Doesn't sound like an adventure to me - it sounds like hard work with little to no fun involved - but to each their own.

So this weeks card is for him.

I went on line to find a digi image of a biker with packs and such but couldn't find anything so I searched some free coloring pages and found this guy. While it's not exactly what I was looking for, the expression on his face matches the excitement my hubby is feeling.

I was stuck for what to put as a sentiment so I kept it really simple but looking at it now I think it's too simple. I'm thinking now that I should've made the image smaller and had some speech bubbles above him saying a few different things. Oh well, too late now - he's seen it and he appreciates it, maybe I'll use that idea on a different card.

Inside & Out on StampNation

We've got a fun challenge for you over on StampNation this week. We put a lot of time and effort into making the front of the cards but we tend to neglect the insides. This week we want you to show both the INSIDE and the OUTSIDE of your cards some love.

Here's a sneak peek at my card and...

a here's a peek at some of the DT's cards.

Make a Wish and a Message

This was one of those challenges that as soon as I saw the cue card I knew
what I was going to do. The cue card at CASology is wish and I thought it
was perfect for a card that's been on my mind to make.

I die cut a circle in some card stock to use like a stencil. I grabbed some fun distress ink colors and set about sponging the background. Originally it was just going to be a few at the top of the page but I couldn't seem to stop sponging on the colors.
I stamped the sentiment and the candles and then something happened that almost made me throw it out. When I wiped the surface where I was sponging I missed a spot and when I turned the piece over to add some craft foam I set it in some ink. ugghhhh

I let it sit overnight and when I came back to it this morning I decided not to throw it away. I decided to add some sequins and some shimmer to the candles in hopes to distract from the ink.

And now for my message:

Me telling you all this probably defeats the purpose of distracting from the ink but what I wanted to get across is this - don't give up on cards when you make a mistake, more often than not there's a way to make it work. This is supposed to be a fun hobby and if you stress out too much about everything being perfect then you're missing out on the fun.

Now I need to make some tea and go check out all the cards the DT made and all the entries too.

Happy Stampin'
and thanks so much for visiting!

Three For One

I've been wanting to try coloring on kraft colored card stock for awhile and with the combined challe Onenges at AAA CardsLess is More and Seize the Birthday right now it was the perfect time to try it.

I used this adorable Cake & Wishes stamp set from Penny Black and combined
words from the All About You and the Young at Heart stamp sets from CAS-ual Fridays and Catherine Pooler's SOA Collection.

I stamped them all with versamark ink and then heat embossed with white embossing powder. I used white and a variety of red pencil crayons from Prismacolor.
