Forgotten Stamps

Not too long ago, the ladies over at StampNation challenged
each other to use those neglected, forgotten stamp sets
that we all seem to have. You know the one. That one set you just
had to have. You may have made one or even two cards
when it first arrived but sine then it has been
collecting dust.  Yeah, that one!
The challenge was to make 3 cards with
the neglected stamp set(s) - a thank you, a birthday and a sympathy card.

sympathy card

birthday card

thank you card

Well, this challenge was harder than I thought it would be.
I chose two neglected stamp sets -
A Dozen Thoughts which I am embarrassed to admit - I hadn't
even put it together (so sad), and the Fine Feathers set which I had
used 2 of the 5 stamps from - I know, not much better but at least
I hadn't completely neglected it.
I almost quit a couple of times but persisted. I'm glad I did as I'm
quite happy with how they turned out.

So, here's my challenge to you.
Pull out those neglected, forgotten stamp sets and
have some fun with them!!

Two For One!

I have two cards for you today.

This one

and this one.

Last night I was prepping the first card which is one
of the cards for a stack class tonight. The leftover piece that
you see in the pic below is what inspired the
second card. It was sitting off to the side and when I looked
at it I had an idea for a card and of course being the
person that I am, I had to stop what I was doing and
make the card.

While I was making the second card I realized that it
fit the current sketch challenge over at Seize the Sketch.

Don't throw these pieces away as they are great when you
would like to mask off an area on your cards for sponging.

Changed My Mind

Have you ever started out making one card only to get
an idea for a completely different card?
That's what happened to me this morning.
I was working on a card for the
when I had an idea for a completely different card
and I had to make it.

This is that card.

Definitely not a Christmas card but it was a
fun card to make.
I scored some lines on the card base to give it some
more texture. The torn edge on the corner shows a hint
of the pool party card stock peaking through picking up
on the print in the dsp.

Clean and Simple!

This is definitely a CAS card!
I don't think it gets any cleaner or simpler -
unless I omitted the pearls - but I like those :)

The flower is from one stamp set and the
greeting is from another.
I've had the flower set for a LONG time and finally put it
together and used it for the first time the other day.
Don't ask me why it took me so long.
I'm so happy that I finally played with it because I
absolutely love it - it's so pretty!

also fit the challenge over at CAS(E) this Sketch!
Thank you Kristie :)

Thank You

Last night I made thank you cards for
a friend. I kept them all very CAS - I've
really come to enjoy this style of card making.

These are the first 3 - they all have the same
layout and stamp. I used different patterns
of DSP from the same paper pack with
co-ordinating twine.
The DSP and the twine are SAB items.
I added score lines on either side of the dsp to give
the card a bit of texture and to help frame the paper.

Where to Find Inspiration?

Inspiration comes from everywhere!
It could be a pattern on a piece of clothing, the field
of flowers you see on a drive, a trip to the playground,
a cute puppy, a child's toy, something someone says,
how you feel, a thought, a memory, a song, a photograph,
a painting... You get the idea.
Inspiration comes from everywhere!

The inspiration for this card came from the StampNation
logo that is displayed on the top of this page.

Sometimes you start out with one idea when making a
card and you end up with something completely different.
That's what happened with this card.

I knew I wanted to have the globe on my card but my
original idea didn't work with the overall look I was going
for. I softened up the look of the globe but still wasn't
sure what to do with the rest of the card.
The embossed arrow was something that was left over
from a different card and happened to be poking out of a
pile of papers. When I pulled that out, the rest of the
card just fell into place.

The sponging over the globe doesn't show as well as I would have liked.
I used coastal cabana and pistachio pudding, but they
look a little 'muddy' in the photo :(

recipe:
all products are Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted
card stock: whisper white, basic black, tempting turquoise
core'dinations card stock: coastal cabana, pistachio pudding, strawberry slush
stamp sets: the open sea, and an inkadinkado set (name ?)
ink: stazOn, coastal cabana, pistachio pudding,
rich razzleberry, real red, pumpkin pie, marina mist,
daffodil delight, melon mambo
big shot: arrows EF
embellishments: pool party twine (SAB), basic pearls

Happy Birthday (Belated)

This is my second post for the day as I missed yesterday.

Our very talented leader Catherine Pooler, over
at StampNation, celebrated a birthday this week.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEET SISTAH!
If you haven't done so already, check her blog out here

She loves the color pink so it was a no-brainer that
there would definitely be pink on her card.
Also, she is known for adding a little piece of a doilie
on her cards, so I knew I was going to be doing that.
She's also a very talented 'colorist' - and has
inspired me to try it more so I thought I'd try it on her
card. (I have so much to learn still)

The flower is from the stamp set I showed in the previous
post - it's from Inkadinkado, but for some reason there is
no name on the package??

recipe:
all products Stampin' Up unless otherwise noted
card stock: whisper white
core'dinations card stock: pistachio pudding,
strawberry slush

regal rose, pretty in pink, pink pirouette
big shot: framed tulips EF, arrows EF, circles framelits
doilies, basic pearls, dimensionals

Hope, Dream, Love, Inspire

I didn't get a chance to post yesterday - I've had a
couple of pretty hectic and stressful days and not
enough time to play. I did manage to make
a couple of cards last night but was too exhausted to
post. Sorry about that.

I recently purchased a stamp set from
Inkadinkado. I bought one of their stamp sets years ago
but nothing since, (not sure why), but when I saw this
stamp set, I had to have it.
The words just spoke to me and the images I thought
would be perfect for coloring in.

This card has all 4 of the words on it. I stamped the
daisies in Stampin' Up!s StazOn ink. colored in the leaves
and then added the retired vintage flowers.

The washi tape is also a new purchase - it's from
Recollections.  The vintage look of the tape is what sold me on it.

If you haven't tried using washi tape on a card yet, you
really must! They're so easy to work with and come in
such an array of patterns.

I used the smallest single flower along with the Gorgeous
Grunge stamp set from Stampin' Up! to make the
background. I positioned the washi tape and the burlap
ribbon and then added the words.

While there are a couple of things I would change about
this card, overall I'm happy with it.

recipe:
all products are Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted
card stock: very vanilla
ink: river rock, wild wasabi, certainly celery, stazOn
stamp set: the one from recollections pictured above
(there's no name on the package?)
and gorgeous grunge
washi tape: from recollections
ribbon: 1 1/4" burlap, linen thread, crisp cantaloupe twine (SAB),
vintage flower trim (retired)
pearls colored black with a sharpie

Oh What Fun!

I've mentioned in earlier posts that StampNation just
had it's 3rd birthday and is celebrating all week long
with a new challenge every day. The challenge for this
card was to go back and pick a challenge from the month
and year that you joined StampNation.
The challenges never close there which is
FUN! FUN! FUN!

The challenge for December 2011, which is when I joined
was to 'color it in'. Choose any image you'd like and color
it in. Since I joined in December I decided to go with this
image of caroling snowmen that I had borrowed from a friend.

I seriously have to get my own snowmen stamps - love
them!! They always put such a smile on my face :)

Reach for the Stars!

The card I made today is for the FTL275 challenge
over at Clean and Simple Stamping
The challenge was to make a card based on
the sketch below.

My first thought was to make a Valentine's card
with hearts coming out of the envelope, but I've
done that before and I wanted to do something
different. While I was thinking about it my
daughter suggested stars which I loved so I
decided on a congratulations card and kept it
simple with black, white and silver.
I'm thinking this would be good for a silver
anniversary, a graduation, a promotion....
any major achievement in someone's life.

The envelope was made with the 1 3/4" circle
punch. Punch out 4 circles, fold each one in half.
Position each piece so the folded edge is on the
outside and forms a square. Use your preferred
choice of adhesive to put together. I left the
top open for the stars to 'float' out of.

recipe:
all products from Stampin' Up unless otherwise noted
card stock: whisper white, basic black
silver glimmer paper
stamp set: happy congratulations
ink: basic black
big shot: pretty print EF
punches: 1 3/4" circle, star punch (not SU)
silver 1/8" ribbon

Mojo Monday 328

Today I decided to play along with the
Mojo Monday sketch challenge.
This one was a lot of fun to make -
actually, truth be told, they're all fun to make.

This is the sketch that was provided for the challenge...

...and this is the card I made based on the sketch.
I really like how the card has a vintage-y feel to it while
still being a relatively clean and simple card.

The tiny tags say 'love' and 'baby'. I decided to make
this one a baby card. I know, it doesn't look like your traditional baby card,
but the 3 on the card made me think this would be good for
either a 3rd child or a first baby - the third member of a family.
The colors of course are gender neutral.

Here is a close up of the tiny tags, sorry it's a bit blurry.

recipe:
all products are from Stampin' Up!
card stock: whisper white, crumb cake, pistachio pudding core'dinations paper
stamp sets: postage due and tiny tags
ink: crumb cake and pistachio pudding

punches: tiny tags
embellishments: linen thread and brushed bronze buttons

Merry Monday Challenge #91

It's time again for another Merry Monday challenge.
Last weeks challenge was so much fun. The ladies over at
Merry Monday are so welcoming, friendly and encouraging.
I am thrilled to say that I was given honorable mention
for the card I entered.

Thank you to all the designers of Merry Monday.

This weeks challenge is a fun theme - to use a snowman or
snowpeople on your card.

I looked through my stash and discovered that I don't own
a snowman stamp - not even one! What? I find that odd, really odd
because I LOVE snowmen but for some reason I've never bought one.
I'll have to remedy that.  So, I borrowed a couple from a friend to play with.

I really struggled with this one, but in the end, I'm happy with how it turned out.

recipe:
card stock: whisper white, crumb cake, cherry cobbler, gumball green
dsp: season of style dsp stack
ink: stazon, cherry cobbler, basic black, baked brown sugar,
gumball green, pumpkin pie, tangerine tango

BIrthday Wishes

I mentioned in yesterday's post that StampNation is
celebrating it's 3rd birthday. One of the great thing's about it
is that we'll be celebrating all week long with different challenges.

Today's challenge was to make a card using 3 of something.
The design team shared some beautiful cards that inspired
me instantly. An idea came to me right away and I
made this card in about 15 minutes. You know when you
make a card and everything you try works? This was
one of those cards.

I used 3 colours, 3 washi tapes all showing different patterns,
3 stars, 3 pearls and I made 3 passes through the big shot.

For the tag I cut a 2" wide strip of paper and added the washi
tape, repeating the pattern 3 times. I cut off any card stock
that was not covered and put one end in the
scalloped tag topper punch and voila - an original tag.

I stamped the greeting on whisper white card stock and
then ran it through the big shot using the deco labels framelits.
There isn't one the size you see on the card so after the first
pass through I repositioned the framelit to frame the greeting
and ran it through a second time.
Using the magnetic platform with the Big Shot made this
much easier to do. Hopefully the pictures below show each step clearly.

first pass through the big shot

this is what it looks like after the first pass

reposition the framelit so it frames the greeting

run it through the big shot a second time and
this is the end result

For the black piece underneath the greeting I used the
banners framelits dies I cut the straight edge to match the
notched edge and then placed it under the greeting.

To make the pearls pink, I colored them with a sharpie.

recipe:

Birthday/Diva Challenge

I made this card today for a challenge over at StampNation which
is celebrating it's third birthday today.
Happy Birthday StampNation!!!
If you haven't done so yet, you should check it out.
Heather, a member of the design team at StampNation
suggested I also enter this card into the
Dazzling Diva challenge
at
This is the inspiration photo for the Dazzling Diva challenge
isn't it gorgeous!
And here's the card that Heather suggested would be great for
this challenge. It's like I chose the colors for my card based on this photo.
To make the baker's twine match the card I dragged a piece of the
whisper white across the elegant eggplant ink pad.
If you try this I would advise you giving it time to dry. I didn't do that
and ended up with a smudge on the paper which is why you see stars on the card.

recipe:
card stock: whisper white 100730
stamp sets: bring on the cake 121958 clear, 128490 wood,

Language of Love

I'm not ready to make Valentine's cards just yet, but I was
really wanting to play with the new stamp set called
Language of Love from Stampin' Up! shown below.

I thought this stamp set that would work for Valentine's Day cards as well
as wedding, anniversary, and even thinking of you cards.
I decided to play with the 2013-2015 in colors from Stampin' Up!  I also wanted
to keep the layout all the same but mix it up a bit by using different
embossing folders to add more texture and using different stamps
from the stamp set.

I think these would work well as part of a gift set with a variety of greetings
stamped and punched out with adhesive on the back making it
easy for someone to add a greeting of their choice.
All of these are awaiting a greeting which I will most likely
add to the inside.

recipe:
card stock: whisper white 100730, smoky slate 131202
2013-2015 in color core'dinations 129958
stamp set: language of love 133077

Express Yourself with DSP

I'm continuing to challenge myself to use more designer series paper.
I'm finding it to be a great way for me to use up the piles of
paper that I have, and I have a lot!!!!
I'm sorry, I don't remember which company this paper
is from, I bought it years ago.
One side of this paper was all flowers like the one you see in the card.
The other side of the paper was the stripes so
the colors match perfectly.

I began by cutting out one of the flowers and popping it up using
dimensionals and placing it on a piece of the striped
paper that was just big enough for the flower to fit.
When I added it to the white paper I decided not to trim the extra
bit from the bottom. I thought it looked like an old polaroid which I
thought would be fun. My daughter says it looks like the photos on
instagram - I don't use instagram so I don't know.
It also left me with the perfect spot to stamp a greeting.

At this stage, I was happy with the card but I felt it was still
missing something. I really like cards that have texture, so that's what
I did. I added some texture by putting some tulle ribbon behind the flower
piece, (it's on the clearance rack right now for a great deal) and then adding some linen thread, ribbon and a tiny
vintage brad to the front. Originally I had the flower piece sitting
straight on the card but once I angled it a little I decided I was done.

recipe:
card stock: crumb cake 120953, basic black 121045, whisper white 100730
dsp: sorry, I can't remember - if you recognize it, let me know
stamp set: express yourself (hostess set) 130336 wood, 130339 clear
embellishments: linen thread 104199, 7/16" trim 129287, vintage trinkets 118764
crumb cake 3 1/2" scalloped tulle (on the clearance rack right now) 127840
